1 p.m. - I decided for my first Crawford County Fair experience this year, I would have lunch at the Fairgrounds. That meant a trip to the Angels Among Us building to have a chicken dinner. Last year, when I went out at about the same time, there was just a few people there eating lunch so I figured that traffic would be light. However, this year was a little different. The tables were all practically full and I was lucky enough to beat the rush because, 10 minutes into eating, they were out of chicken and it would take 15 minutes to make a fresh batch. Nonetheless, very good eating.
2 p.m. - After virtually stuffing my face with chicken, mashed potatoes and pie, I trekked to the Open Events building to see different foods, art, floral designs and the like that were being judged in the Open Events category. Mind you, I am a big city person and never really spent much time on a farm, so 4-H categories and the like are very foreign to me but in my profession, I get to learn new things every day. I learned what judges look for in different categories and what constitutes a good entry and just how much preparation goes into different art and food. Very interesting.
Tonight - day one of the Fair Rodeo at the Grandstands. More to come
