The Peoples Choice

I have often complained that our two party democratic system is like having a choice between flip sides of the same coin. So far there has been nothing in our current pick and choose that would cause me to reconsider that statement. Honest to goodness political reformers like Ross Perot and Ron Paul get lost on the media shuffle and there doesn't seem to be a coin edge's difference between the good old Republican and Democratic two party candidates on most issues to make either significantly better or worse.

There are some differences, the Republican candidate thinks we should maintain a "presence" in the far east for as long as it takes to "get the job done", exactly what job are we talking about? The disposition of Saddam, The formation of an independent local ruling government? The ability of the local enforcement and military agencies to self sustain? Reconstruction of infrastructure and services? The problem is that there was no defined goals beyond the invasion and deposing Saddam. His statement that we may have to maintain a presence in country for a "hundred years" may well prove to be prophetic

One Democratic candidate seems to be in favor of cutting and running which will ensure the "Just like Vietnam" status on our latest military venture. Not to mention the Arabian mindset if we are inclined to pull out without the establishment of a self maintaining government and military we are in essence abandoning these people to the tender mercies of groups like Al Qaida Hamas and what ever Iran has to offer. The citizenry will have a choice to submit to the more powerful better armed and organized jihadists or die in the streets or hide out in their houses trying to oppose them with no chance of success.

The other Democratic candidate seems to be in favor of pulling the troops out but but maybe not right away, to enable the local government and military with self dependency but no specifics are offered on how to accomplish this...All in all it just seems like double speak to me.

The Democrats seem to be in favor of raising taxes, and spending more for programs they think we should have, The Republicans seem to be in favor of offering tax cuts and spending more for projects they think we need. Regardless of who is elected I foresee the American public having to pay through the nose for programs and projects that will likely fail within a year of their inception Umm, excuse me...We have programs and projects already, can't they be fine tuned to work instead of constructing new programs and projects on top of those already in existence?.........Oh, you didn't think of that..........

I have no idea how the November elections are going to turn out and truthfully just the thought of putting up with months and months of cam-paining to ultimately arrive at a place most people would choose not to visit voluntarily has given me an illness. Talking to others online and in person I find I am not the only one suffering from this malady. Should we take a couple of aspirin and drink plenty of fluids and hope for the best come November, or is there no treatment and no hope of cure for what has become the most prolific affliction of 2008 -
