9:10 p.m. - The first day of the Crawford County Fair at Girard is just about in the books. The first day of the ever-popular Crawford County Rodeo started off with a bang at 8 p.m. and a packed grandstand watched a full slate of events that will continue into Thursday night. The music coming from the American Legion stage can be heard throughout the fairgrounds and the dance is in full swing. Despite hot weather during the day, the fair has gone off without a hitch on its first day.

5:15 p.m. - Things have started to cool off here at the Crawford County Fairgrounds - it is currently a cool 90 degrees out - but that has not stopped the fairgrounds from starting to pick up in activity. Vendors have started to set up for the evenings events such as the Rodeo, which kicks off at 8 p.m. at the grandstands. Earlier this afternoon, the crowd was fairly light, but things have started to pick up and the midway between the grandstands and the display buildings have over 100 spectators.

1 p.m. - I decided for my first Crawford County Fair experience this year, I would have lunch at the Fairgrounds. That meant a trip to the Angels Among Us building to have a chicken dinner. Last year, when I went out at about the same time, there was just a few people there eating lunch so I figured that traffic would be light. However, this year was a little different. The tables were all practically full and I was lucky enough to beat the rush because, 10 minutes into eating, they were out of chicken and it would take 15 minutes to make a fresh batch. Nonetheless, very good eating.

O.K. so it has been a while, but things have been chaotic lately, but I thought I had some time, so let's talk pop culture.
I will start off by saying that I am not one for watching much television (unless, of course it is SportsCenter), but my roommate has turned me on to a new television show.
Honestly, I think that most things on television lately are junk - just more reality shows for us to watch and revel in others misery. Just when I thought that The Jerry Springer Show was the epitome of bad television, we have entered into the new age of watching people break into fist fights, trading spouses and women getting their hearts broken on national TV.

I suppose I can't say that I am too terribly broken up about the recent announcement of county music singer Sara Evans filing for a divorce from her husband, Oregon Representative Craig Schelske, stating that he cheated on her, drank excessively, was verbally and emotionally abusive, and often watched pornography in their house. In addition to the filing, Evans has taken herself off the popular "Dancing With the Stars." Now for the reason why I am not that upset about it. Granted, divorce is never an easy thing to go through for a man, woman and especially ... kids. Evans and Schelske had three. But here is the thing, and not to sound too manly or macho, but a person like Evans is something that should be put directly on a pedestal and never removed. The 35-year-old Evans alleges that Schelske has photographs of himself having sex with other women, and that he has at least 100 nude photos of himself "in a state of arousal." Evans also says that Schelske watched pornography on the couple's computer and made requests online for sex with multiple partners. She alleges that their oldest child confronted Schelske while he was watching porn on their TV. What a shame. I am not the biggest county music fan, especially when I worked for a country-music radio station in Wichita and my ears continously rang after a shift, but I do happen to like Sara Evans' music. It is just a shame that she and her children will have to endure the trials of a divorce. On the iPod: "What R We Stealing" by David Holmes (from the Ocean's Twelve soundtrack).

First and foremost, I am not much for watching television. In fact, I watch television by buying television seasons on DVD, but I have a new favorite.
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip features Matthew Perry, Bradley Whitford (of West Wing fame), Amanda Peet, Steven Weber and D.L. Hughley.
Since NBC said goodbye to The West Wing, studio execs needed to find something smart and dissecting of society to take its place ... hence Studio 60.
The story centers around a Saturday Night Live-type television show and its battles with political humor and network execs.
Those who found The West Wing smart and rivoting will find Studio 60 just as rife with humor and quick-wittedness.

After stringent contract negotiations with fellow Morning Sun writer Kevin Flaherty, I will be doing a regular blog on pop culture. This will involve looking at entertainment such as movies, television and my favorite ... music.I will regularly do reviews and critiques on the above topics as well as other topics involving pop culture. We will take trips down amnesia lane as well as looking at current trends in fashion (as if I was that fashion adequate), and entertainment. As always, I always encourage your comments, questions and topic ideas.I would also like to take a look at the indie music ci
