The Peoples Choice

I have often complained that our two party democratic system is like having a choice between flip sides of the same coin. So far there has been nothing in our current pick and choose that would cause me to reconsider that statement. Honest to goodness political reformers like Ross Perot and Ron Paul get lost on the media shuffle and there doesn't seem to be a coin edge's difference between the good old Republican and Democratic two party candidates on most issues to make either significantly better or worse.

The Golden Compass called an "evil movie"

Gee, I haven't read a discussion on the dire effects a movie will have on our youth since... well, The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe (2005) One side in favor of and saying its good for the kiddies, the other side saying it is evil propaganda and causes people to instantly stop thinking for themselves and run right out to convert - to... something-or-other. I lost track after the last Harry Potter crisis.

Another thing I don't understand

I guess I could fill up this website with things I don't understand. (*Feel free to slam me for my previous statement it will help me prove my point) One thing has bothered me since my early days when chat rooms on the internet were in vogue and people actually chatted in them is that there is a core group who beyond looking for some way to belittle someone, cast disparaging remarks about their chat or posts have nothing or very little to contribute. Case in point check the TALKBACK section of the Morning Sun and you will find numerous examples.

More things I don't understand

Just recently I wrote a light hearted note on “Things I don’t understand” and although there were points of genuine seeking mixed in with humorous observations personal opinions and just outright absurdity observance of everyday life and media events particularly the grousing of bloggers and TV media personalities compels me to publish yet another chapter of “Things I don’t understand”.

What's the difference?

http://www.kansaswins.org/

Can somebody explain to me why there is such a furor by some who are opposed to expanding electronic gaming (gambling) in the state? Correct me if I'm wrong but the dire predictions of widows spending their mite on slot machines instead of food and families being thrown into the streets for the same reason would have already happened with the introduction of scratch tickets, pull tabs, and KENO. Wouldn't it?

you can walk into a store and pay from fifty cents to five dollars and hope that the right combination of numbers will show up on a video screen during the game, or put money in a slot machine and hope the right combination of symbols show up during the game.  I don't really see a big difference do you?

Brownback for President?

US Senator Sam Brownback from Kansas has thrown his hat into the 2008 Presidential ring. Is this a good thing for Kansas? Of curiosity I had to go to Sen. Brownback's webpage and carefully read the articles to try to figure out where he stands on issues important to me.

From his website I see he has traveled to the Middle East, Africa and Asia. He has insights on Ethiopia's "War on Terror" and Genocide in the Darfur Region. Brownbeck said he is "concerned about the effects of media and advertising on children's health" but doesn't think government regulation is an answer. He has reintroduced a bill to making it mandatory for doctors to inform women seeking an abortion on a fetus 20 weeks after inception that the fetus feels pain.

What the hell's going on?!?

I saw on CNN the other day about a mother charged with microwaving her infant child -

What the hell is going on with the world? ! ?

The longer I live the scarier this mud-ball gets.

FOX News vs. CNN

Has anybody been following the controversy about FOX news? MSNBC and CNN both seem to believe that many of the FOX news programs are scripted and not the "fair and balanced" perspective they claim.  Who do you rely on for your news?Personally I feel that the days of reporting the news from a dispassionate fact based perspective is a thing of the past. O'Reilly, and Hannity & Colmes on FOX, Nancy Grace and Glenn Beck on CNN the reality of it is that all of these programs are news based Talk Shows with more personal perspective and commentary than actual news reporting.  Do the major news media outlets believe that we the public are so simple minded that given the facts on a given situation we are so mentally inept that we cannot develop our own opinions?

Small Town Influence - Global Perespective

I have been trying to think of something catchy and informative to post for my first blog but everything so far sounds too haughty or non descript for my liking. I settled for the above because it fit more closely than the original "Traditional Values - Modern Philosophy" I was going to use.As I understand it blogs are supposed to be used to post opinions, articles of interest from other sources and personal responses to those articles.  Sort of a Get off of the Soap Box and onto the Internet thing, a way of expressing personal opinions so that other people can see how deranged you are.
